Discover essential insights on Inheritance Tax and Estate Planning in 2025. Learn how proactive planning secures your legacy and protects your loved ones.

Why I believe Estate Planning is more important than ever this year

As we step into 2025, many of us are setting new goals – for our health, careers, or personal growth. But while we plan for life’s milestones, there’s one area that’s often overlooked: Inheritance Tax and Estate Planning.

For me, Estate Planning isn’t about being overly cautious; it’s about being prepared. It’s about making sure your wishes are clear, your loved ones are protected, and your legacy is preserved. Just like setting goals helps us succeed in life, planning for what happens after we’re gone brings peace of mind not just for us, but for our families too.

Why Inheritance Tax and Estate Planning matters to you and your family

Inheritance Tax (IHT) rules are always changing, and what worked in the past might not be effective today. I’ve seen firsthand how proactive Estate Planning can ease the financial and emotional burden on families during difficult times.

Why you should plan now:

  • Protect your family from unexpected tax bills.
  • Ensure your assets are distributed exactly how you want.
  • Prevent unnecessary stress and confusion for your loved ones.

A little planning now can prevent a lot of uncertainty later – because true peace of mind comes from knowing you’ve done everything you can to protect your family’s future.

What I’ve learned about goals and Estate Planning

At the start of this year, I spoke at our first BNI meeting of 2025. I shared how people with written goals are far more successful that those with no written goals, plan of action or specific objectives.

This is confirmed by a study conducted by Dominican University of California that highlights the power of writing down goals: “People who write down their goals are 42% more likely to achieve them than those who simply think about their goals.”

And in the words of Dr Gail Matthews, the lead researcher of the study: “The act of writing one’s goals enhances accountability, clarity, and commitment, significantly increasing the likelihood of success.”

This same principle applies to Inheritance Tax and Estate Planning in 2025. A clear, actionable plan – written down and properly structured – can make all the difference in ensuring your wishes are carried out exactly as you intend.

“You can’t plan for these things after they’ve happened, but you can plan for them now, comfortably, perhaps over a cup of tea at your kitchen table.”

Estate Planning isn’t seasonal – it’s essential

December is often seen as a time for relaxation and celebration, but for me, it was one of the busiest months of the year. That’s because Estate Planning isn’t something tied to a season – it’s a constant need.

I often remind people: death and estate planning are realities we can’t avoid. But we can face them with clarity and preparation, ensuring our loved ones aren’t left to navigate unnecessary legal and financial challenges during an already emotional time.
